Mace blueprint

Mace Rules

Mace boffers have an enlarged “head” on the tagging end. The mace is used in a swinging motion to tag with the sides of the mace head. The mace cannot be used to tag with the end via a thrusting motion. The table below covers the allowable lengths and wielding requirements by rank for maces:

*This is the rank of the boffer, not the player. A player can always use a lower rank’s equipment. Always mark to the lowest available rank (for example, any 26″ mace will be marked with Orange tape).

**”Dual” means that the boffer can be used with another boffer, if the player’s rank permits and so long as the loadout does not exceed 6 feet in length. “Single” means that the boffer can only be wielded alone.

In addition to the rules outlined in the above blueprint and table:
  1. The haft or core of a mace boffer shall consist of a single piece of ¾ inch schedule 40 PVC pipe.
  2. The non-tagging end of a sword boffer shall have a standard Pommel.
  3. “Courtesy foam” – Closed cell foam shall be used to cover the haft of the mace from the mace head to a point that is midway between the two ends of the mace (at a minimum). The inspecting Marshal should give 2 inches of “wiggle room” on this measurement and if the courtesy foam extends beyond this point towards the pommel it is okay. A mace boffer shall have at least 2 inches of courtesy foam, regardless of overall boffer and mace-head length.
  4. The mace-head should be between 4 and 6 inches in diameter. It should be between 5 ½ and 11 inches long when measured from the end of the boffer opposite the pommel to where the courtesy foam begins.
  5. A mace boffer may have a combination of glued and taped components.
