Axe Rules

The axe boffer is a boffer that is shaped like a single bit axe. The only part that is used to tag is what would be the edge of the axe. Axes can be used to hook an opponent’s boffer or shield. Axes do not have a thrusting tip. The table below covers the allowable lengths and wielding requirements by rank:

Max LengthUp to 26″26 – 32″32 – 42″42 – 50″50 – 62″

*This is the rank of the boffer, not the player. A player can always use a lower rank’s equipment.

**”Dual” means that the boffer can be used with another boffer, if the player’s rank permits and so long as the loadout does not exceed 6 feet in length. “Single” means that the boffer can only be wielded alone.

In addition to the rules outlined in the above blueprint and table:
  1. The haft or core of an axe boffer shall consist of a single piece of ¾ inch schedule 40 pvc pipe.
  2. The non-tagging end of an axe boffer shall have a standard Pommel
  3. The end of the pipe core that terminates in the head of the axe shall be capped as if it were a Thrusting Tip and covered with at least ¾ inch closed cell foam.
  4. The haft shall have “courtesy foam” at least ½ inch thick covering the core or haft from where the head of the axe ends to the mid-point of the axe. If the axe is 50 or more inches in length, this measurement is fixed at 25 inches. The inspecting Marshal can give up to 2 inches of “wiggle room” on this, and there is no penalty for courtesy foam being “too long”.
  5. Axe heads should be made entirely out of foam. The body of the axe head should be made of stiffer foam (like 4# closed cell foam) with the exposed sections being softer foam like 2# closed cell foam.
