Glaive blueprint

Glaive Rules
A glaive is a long boffer with a pommel on one end, and a blade on the other. The blade has a definite edge and is not round in cross section. The table below covers the allowable lengths and wielding requirements by rank:
Rank | Squire | Knight | D. Knight | Cavalier | Dragoon | Lancer | Sentinel |
Band Color* | Red | Orange | Yellow | Green | Blue | Purple | Pink |
Max Length | – | – | – | – | 42 – 56″ | 56 – 62″ | 62 – 68″ |
Blade Length | – | – | – | – | 12- 16″ | 12 – 20″ | 12 – 24″ |
Wielding** | – | – | – | – | Single | Single | Single |
*This is the rank of the boffer, not the player. A player can always use a lower rank’s equipment.
**”Dual” means that the boffer can be used with another boffer, if the player’s rank permits and so long as the loadout does not exceed 6 feet in length. “Single” means that the boffer can only be wielded alone.
In addition to the rules outlined in the above blueprint and table:
- The haft or core of a glaive boffer shall consist of a single piece of ¾ inch schedule 40 PVC pipe.
- The non -tagging end of a glaive shall have a standard Pommel.
- The blade of the glaive should be constructed entirely of closed cell foam. Glaive blades must be between 2 and 3 inches thick when looking at the glaive from the “cutting edge”. From the back of the blade to the cutting edge should measure between 3 and 5 ½ inches. The Thrusting Tip can be curved but should not be unsafe in doing so. The length of the blade from base to the end of the thrusting tip is listed above. There should be at least ¾ inch closed cell foam at the thrusting tip of the glaive.
- Glaives will have courtesy foam extending from the base of the blade to a point ½ the overall length of the glaive. If a glaive is 50 or more inches in length this measurement is fixed at 25 inches. Inspecting Marshals should give 2 inches of “wiggle room” on this measurement. A glaive will always have at least two inches of courtesy foam at the base of the blade at a minimum.
- The rank band for the glaive shall be placed at the top of the handle, immediately below the foam haft covering mentioned in part 4 above.
