A dragoon’s Role
A Dragoon is the fifth Rank, or “level,” that any Sword Tag participant achieves. Dragoons have an understanding of Courage and Mentorship. Dragoons seek to understand and demonstrate the values of Leadership and Patience. This is a the first of the Noble Ranks now that the participant has demonstrated that they are willing and able to mentor others and have shown their mastery of the rules.

A dragoon’s Load-out

How do i become a Lancer?
What are the Values?
- Leadership
- Patience
What are the Rank-up requirements?
- Make and bring your own Spear boffer (instructions pending).
- Work to mentor other people, maybe even taking on a dedicated person that you would like to work with. This person (or people) will speak with the Lancers when they are discussing ranking you up. They will ask:
- What did your Dragoon teach you?
- How did your Dragoon support you and your learning?
- What was the biggest lesson your Dragoon taught you?
- Did your Dragoon use patience when they worked with you? Or were did your Dragoon get frustrated easily?
- Attend minimum of 3 sessions after your prior rank up. These sessions do not need to be consecutive.
What do the higher Ranks look for?
- Does the Dragoon not only know the rules, but go out of their way to help others learn and understand the rules, too?
- Does the Dragoon scale their ability up or down depending on their opponent? For example, do they spar with a Squire the same way they would spar with a Lancer? Or do they “go easy” on the Squire to help them build up confidence and have fun?
- Does the Dragoon help the Marshals and Wardens without being asked?
- Can the Dragoon discuss plans and strategy for games with others? Are they able to justify their actions and choices with more than just “I said so”?
- Does the Dragoon seek out mentorship opportunities? Do they work with the Lower Ranks (especially Squires) of their own choice?
- How does the Dragoon work with the person they are mentoring? Are they able to “keep their cool” when things don’t go as planned?
- How does the Dragoon handle frustration? When they are tagged too hard or in an illegal area, how do they respond?
