A lancer’s Role
A Lancer is the sixth Rank, or “level,” that any Sword Tag participant achieves. Lancers have an understanding of the concepts of Patience and Understanding. Lancers seek to understand and demonstrate the values of Respect and Self-control. If these values seem familiar, it’s because they are the same values for Squires! However, by this point, the Lancer should be seeking a deeper understanding of these values than when they were a Squire. Lancers will work with Cavaliers to progress them into and through the Noble Ranks.

A lancer’s Load-out

How do i become a Sentinel?
What are the Values?
- Respect
- Self-Control
What are the Rank-up requirements?
- Make and bring your own Shield with your own heraldry (instructions pending).
- Train your replacement: you need to work with other participants to get them from Cavalier to Dragoon. Ideally, this will be one person, but life happens. As long as you are involved in the process, this is okay.
- The Cavalier (or Cavaliers) you work with will speak with the Sentinels when they are discussing ranking you up. They will ask:
- What did your Lancer teach you?
- How did your Lancer support you and your learning?
- What was the biggest lesson your Lancer taught you?
- Did your Lancer use Respect when they worked with you? Or was your Lancer dismissive of you? Did they lead with tyranny or with compassionate authority?
- Attend minimum of 3 sessions after your prior rank up. These sessions do not need to be consecutive.
What do the higher Ranks look for?
- Is the Lancer involved in involved in the process of getting Cavaliers to the Dragoon Rank?
- Does the Lancer not only teach Cavaliers how to become Dragoons, but also prepare them for when they will be performing the Lancer’s role?
- Does the Lancer respect the people they are mentoring? Does the Lancer speak dismissively of them or do they speak with respect?
- Does the Lancer use self-control when teaching? How do they act when they are not with the people they are mentoring? Is it different of the same? How so?
- How does the Lancer behave in out-of-game situations? Are they a help or a bother? Do they support their fellow participants, the Marshals, and the Wardens? Do they take action without needing to be told?
- How does the Lancer behave in-game? Do they take time to help people who seem to need it? Can they troubleshoot and help when a situation arises or do they shy away from helping? Can they report situations to the Marshals if the situation calls for it?
