A sentinel’s Role
A Sentinel is the seventh Rank, or “level,” that any Sword Tag participant achieves, the last one in the sequence. Sentinels do not have special values associated with this rank, but should still understand and abide by the prior values that they have proven they know. At this point, the Sentinel is a “proto-Marshal,” having the skill and knowledge to aid in facilitating game play if needs be. They can also fill in for any other Noble Rank if numbers are low. When they turn 18, they can proceed to becoming a Marshal, if that’s a direction they would like to go.
Another key function of the Sentinel is that they may choose to sit in on their local Marshal and Warden Councils, acting as a voice for the other participants. They are involved in policy development for their local group and have a strong say in the direction a group will go. Furthermore, they may be recruited to test experimental boffers and concepts, acting as a safe way for Marshals to continue to refine and develop Sword Tag.

A sentinel’s Load-out
The following are the load-out rules for what kinds and lengths of boffer a Sentinel can use. All boffers that Sentinel can use should be marked with hot pink tape. They can also use any load-out that any of the Ranks below them may use.

Bigger Swords
A Sentinel may wield up to two Swords at the same time that are 62 inches or shorter in length.
Please remember the 6 Foot Rule: If a you are using a Shield or a dual-wield load-out, the lengths of all boffers and shields placed end-to-end cannot exceed six feet (72 inches).
Please remember the Dual-Wielding Rule: Sword boffers in excess of 42 inches in length must be single-wielded, meaning that they cannot be used with a second boffer or with a shield.
All Swords must be compliant with current Sword boffer rules (these can be found on the Basic Sword page).

Bigger Axes & Maces
A Sentinel may wield up to two Axes at the same time that are 62 inches or shorter in length.
Please remember the 6 Foot Rule: If a you are using a Shield or a dual-wield load-out, the lengths of all boffers and shields placed end-to-end cannot exceed six feet (72 inches).
Please remember the Dual-Wielding Rule: Axe or Mace boffers in excess of 42 inches in length must be single-wielded, meaning that they cannot be used with a second boffer or with a shield.
All Axes and Maces must be compliant with current Axe boffer rules (these can be found on the Basic Axe page) and Mace boffer rules (these can be found on the Basic Mace page).

Bigger Glaive
A Sentinel may wield a single Glaive that is 74 inches or shorter in length. Glaives may not be duel-wielded or used with a Shield.

Experimental Boffers
At the discretion of the Marshals, a Sentinel may wield experimental boffers that have passed the preliminary safety testing requirements.
These boffers may be pulled from play at any time for any reason at the discretion of the Marshals of the Sentinel themself.
titles
What else is there to do after the Ranking progression is done?
After a participant reaches Sentinel, they can choose to pursue different titles in Sword Tag. These titles can be achieved at any time, but are usually focused on after the end of the Ranking system has been reached.
You can check out the currently available Titles and their requirements on the Titles page (currently under construction).
